The Winans
Mention the Winans name and you probably first think of Mario Winans.
But the name has a huge legacy within gospel music. Raised in Detroit, the 鈥渕otor city鈥 that gave us Motown as well as soul legend Aretha Franklin, David 鈥淧op鈥 Winans & Delores 鈥淢om鈥 Winans raised their 10 children around the piano.
Marvin, Carvin, Michael & the late Ronald Winans came onto the scene in 1981 with their debut album 鈥淚ntroducing the Winans鈥, which was an an instant hit and included the song 鈥淭he Question Is鈥. They became immediately known for their smooth harmonies and a modern soulful sound that crowds just loved. All in all they have made 11 albums over a 14 year period.
The Winans quartet are 4 of 10 children born to David 鈥淧op鈥 Winans & Delores 鈥淢om鈥 Winans. Other brothers include David Jr, Daniel & Benjamin 鈥淏ebe鈥 Winans. That leaves three sisters Angelique (Angie), Debra (Debbie) & Prescilla 鈥淐ece鈥 Winans.
In the mid - late 80鈥檚 brother Bebe & sister Cece formed a partnership that carried on the Winans mantle through the release of 6 albums. Their most popular track was "Addictive Love" back in 1991, which is still an anthem for many soul heads. Angie & Debbie plus Daniel Winans also got in on the act by releasing their own albums. The story doesn鈥檛 end there as the children released a project back in 1999. Winans Phase II put out a slammin鈥 album called 鈥淲e Got Next鈥 which featured production from Darkchild.
Without doubt the Winans family have truly changed the face of gospel by bridging the gap between the traditional & contemporary.
