Sway and Kuls spill out of the Crown and pass Mary and Dr Masud in the street. Mary is walking Dr Masud home after a night reminiscing. They share a joke and Dr Masud gives a hearty laugh. But this suddenly turns to a gasp. Something’s wrong. The doctor collapses to the ground and Kuljit and Sway run over. Mary cradles Dr Masud as Kuljit calls for an ambulance. As Dr Masud lies in Mary’s arms, he calls weakly for Shazia.
Sean kicks out the remaining Crown stragglers and locks up. He gets a shock as the back room door opens. His father Jai is back, and isn’t surprised when he doesn’t get a warm welcome. He says Suresh doesn’t get the cold shoulder, and warns Sean not to be taken in by his poison. Sean’s phone rings. It’s Mary, with news about Dr Masud’s collapse. Jai tells Sean he’s not running away again, and begs for a chance to explain himself.
Meanwhile, a tipsy Suresh and Pradeep return home, kebabs in hand. Rita fills them in on the news from Mary. Dr Masud has had a heart attack.
At the hospital, a taxi waits to take Mary home. But Mary needs a moment longer with her old friend. The doctors can do no more and he has gone. Mary breaks down over the bed in which he lays. She tells him off for his timing – dying while Shazia’s off celebrating her birthday. Mary poignantly adds that they’ll keep their knowledge about the photo of Shazia to themselves, and says a final goodbye. She’ll miss her dear old friend. Mary then goes to find Sean and break the news, as Jai heads out the back door of the Crown…
