The ‘sumptuous’ and ‘sublime’ Berlin Philharmonic and Chief Conductor Kirill Petrenko pair Beethoven’s Violin Concerto – with the singing lyricism of its slow movement and exuberant dancing Rondo – with the rapturous musical tussle of Scriabin’s Third Symphony: worldly pleasure and spiritual enlightenment locked in an intoxicating, mystical battle of wills, ‘A joyful and liberating affirmation of … liberty and unity with the universe’. Grammy Award-winning violinist Augustin Hadelich returns to the Proms following his ‘intimate, poised and heartbreakingly direct’ performance of Mendelssohn’s Violin Concerto last season.
