About This Event
Pulitzer winner Tyshawn Sorey honours Morton Feldman and the Rothko Chapel with a meditative new work exploring sound, memory, and spiritual resonance, featuring Barbican Artist in Residence Dav贸ne Tines.
Fifty years after Morton Feldman wrote Rothko Chapel, Tyshawn Sorey鈥擯ulitzer Prize-winning composer, MacArthur Fellow, and acclaimed performer鈥攐ffers his own musical tribute. Commissioned by DA CAMERA and Park Avenue Armory, Monochromatic Light draws on Feldman鈥檚 legacy while speaking to the present, exploring themes of reflection, history, and community.
Sorey creates a sound world that feels timeless and deeply human鈥攎usic that, like Rothko鈥檚 paintings, reveals new shades with every moment. This is a rare chance to hear a major new work shaped by reverence, boldness, and emotional depth.
The performance will end at approximately 9.30pm, without an interval.
Produced by the Barbican.
