About this event

Experience the music of Scandinavian contemporaries Nielsen and Sibelius, whose music is close to the heart of our Chief Conductor Sakari Oramo.

Nielsen’s rhapsody overture portrays a sea-borne journey while Sibelius’ portrait of the fabled Finnish hero Lemminkäinen, which includes The Swan of Tuonela, is rarely encountered complete and contains some of his most atmospheric music. Detlev Glanert’s Megaris evokes the siren Parthenope, who drowned herself in sorrow at her rejection by Odysseus.
