Under J枚rg Widmann, this programme spans celebration and an urgent plea for peace. Schumann鈥檚 Rhine Symphony surges with life and noble horn calls, while Widmann鈥檚 Cantata in tempore belli delivers a searing, uncompromising response to war.

Under Ludovic Morlot, three imaginative voices take centre stage. Stravinsky鈥檚 Jeu des cartes sparkles with wit, Britten鈥檚 youthful Double Concerto features Ben Baker and Tim Ridout, and Ravel鈥檚 Mother Goose Suite closes in glowing fairy鈥憈ale colour.

City energy and sun鈥慸renched dance meet under Carlos Miguel Prieto. Gabriela Ortiz鈥檚 TZAM opens with dialogue and reflection, Ethan Loch brings Gershwin鈥檚 Rhapsody in Blue to life, and de Falla鈥檚 The Three鈥慍ornered Hat closes in brilliant Spanish colour.

Fate and fantasy unfold under Otto Tausk. Anna Clyne鈥檚 Masquerade sparkles with colour, Stephen Hough tackles Rachmaninov鈥檚 virtuosic Piano Concerto No.鈥�3, and Jan谩膷ek鈥檚 Taras Bulba leads to Strauss鈥檚 dazzling Don Juan.

Led by Jaime Martin, this concert pairs MacMillan鈥檚 Concerto for Orchestra 鈥� Ghosts with Beethoven鈥檚 Ninth Symphony. Marking 200 years since Beethoven鈥檚 death, the programme journeys from spectral memories to the symphony鈥檚 choral finale of joy.
