Peter
Levy - as Yorkshire as they come
Peter Levy
feels as Yorkshire as they come . . . all thanks to a high-risk strategy
by a now-famous MP!
Peter, now
the co-presenter of the East Yorkshire version of Â鶹Éç Look North, has
lived in "God's Country" since his late teens.
He had applied
for a job on a new commercial radio station in the patch and was interviewed
by renowned broadcaster Austin Mitchell, now the high-profile Labour MP
across the Humber in Grimsby.
To Peter's
surprise, he was hired and found himself with a career in broadcasting
instead of the acting career he had set out on.
TV soon followed
and for years, he's been the familiar daytime Â鶹Éç news reader throughout
Yorkshire and Lincolnshire, as well as having his own Â鶹Éç radio show.
Now, he's
teamed up on air with Helen Fospero for Â鶹Éç Look North's nightly news
programme from studios in the heart of the city.
Long gone
are those teenage acting days when Peter played in some of the TV classics
like Dixon Of Dock Green, The Mike Yarrows Show, Comedy Playhouse and
Man About The House.
Now it's
Peter and Helen's Look North live from the banks of the Humber.
He says:
"The area deserves it and I'm pleased to be an integral part of it all.
I've got a flat in Victoria Dock and it's a really fantastic area to live
in.
"Also
I can walk to work in the city centre in ten minutes or so.
"I've always
found the Hull people to friendly, warm and polite.
"I knew
they would be very welcoming and I've found that they're very keen on
all the things the Â鶹Éç now has to offer them.
"It's exciting
for me to be in at the beginning of a new venture and Helen and myself
want to make the new, dedicated programme something everyone in Hull can
be proud of."
Peter adds:
"The City is at the heart of all this major new Â鶹Éç investment. If people
here ever felt behind the times in the past, they've now overtaken everyone
in one fell swoop."
Peter is
no stranger to Hull and its surrounding area and has fond memories of
his involvement over the years.
Naturally,
he's been to the Hull New Theatre many times, his love of acting still
being a major interest.
He's recently
been out on a speedboat in the Humber - "a very exhilarating experience
which I'd recommend to everyone."
Spurn Point
remains as one of his favourite walks and Beverley one of his favourite
places, though he's now added Barton On Humber - "a really beautiful and
hidden-away village on the South bank.
Then there's
the attraction of working with Helen.
He says:
"You need to get on with a co-presenter. The viewers can tell straight
away if you like and respect each other.
"I knew immediately
it would work with us. You need someone who is a friend, who shares your
sense of humour and who will help you out when it gets tough.
"I really
do think the viewers will like the new programme. After all, it's their
very own Â鶹Éç Look North from now on."
