der Supermarkt Der Hauptbahnhof ist neben... ...dem Supermarkt
die Apotheke ...der Apotheke
das Restaurant ...dem Restaurant

The words neben, in, an and hinter (called prepositions) can indicate where something is. When they do so, note how der in der Supermarkt and das in das Restaurant change to dem Supermarkt and dem Restaurant , while die in die Apotheke changes to der Apotheke.

These changes are triggered by neben, in, an and hinter when they indicate where something is. They are examples of the dative case.
