On the small bridge
Imagine the past
The next part of the walk is straight ahead. This landscape has allowed the Romans and Normans to see for miles around them, Lindum Colonia or Lincoln being a beacon to travellers.

The area around Lincoln is very flat - in fact famously so, but Lincoln itself stands on what is known as 'The Edge', the prominent scarp slope of Lincoln 'Cliff'.

The Lincolnshire 'Edge' it self is made of a distinctive limestone backbone formed in the middle Jurassic era. The associated soils of the higher ground are shallow, well-drained and brashy loams, and devoid of surface streams.

Walking along next to the Fossedyke.
Striding out

The path you are walking on is mainly chalk based. It was underwater during the 'Birth of Britain' time, as was much of Lincolnshire.

Carry on along the path, this is the popular part of the bridleway so keep an eye out for horses!
