About our work
Since 2012, Â鶹Éç Media Action work has primarily focused on strengthening public service values and editorial standards of Algerian state media institutions. The success of our initial work with Radio Algerie has enabled us to partner with four other state media institutions and develop our relationships with other state media institutions, media production houses, civil society organisations and the Algerian authorities. The Ministry of Communication and media partners have highlighted the importance of the breadth and depth of our work in Algeria.
In spring 2018, we conducted a landmark population survey that provided a thorough overview of Algeria's media sector, which found a lack of content for youth, female and regional audiences. These findings helped us understand these audiences' need for representation and provided information about which topics they want and need access to.
We are now working with the Algerian TV network (EPTV), civil society, and young independent producers to develop skills in modern production techniques and using mobile phone cameras, and to gather stories of environmental change from across the country to contribute to informative, representative media content at national and local levels.
A new project with the UK’s Met Office will focus on the effectiveness of emergency communication during wildfires, which are hitting Algeria with increased frequency and severity, and developing new ideas for reaching vulnerable communities in crisis.

We conducted research in Algeria to better understand how social media users engage with the information they encounter on social media; what drives trust in and sharing of this information; what steps people take to identify false and misleading information and what factors make people more vulnerable to it. -
