The Last Night
Crowds in all four nations of the UK will have their own Last Night events with plenty of chances to join in
The world-famous Last Night of the Proms rounds off two months of classical music with a spectacular celebration at the Royal Albert Hall on . Edward Gardner leads the festivities for the first time, conducting the Â鶹Éç Symphony Orchestra and Chorus, with starring roles for pianist Lang Lang (who performs in both Hyde Park and the Royal Albert Hall) and soprano Susan Bullock.
The Last Night opens with the world premiere of a new work by Sir Peter Maxwell Davies which will involve audience participation and the programme includes music by Bartók, Britten, Liszt and Wagner before closing with the traditional Last Night pieces including Parry’s Jerusalem.
The Last Night of the Proms celebrations spill out of the Royal Albert Hall and into all four nations. Each event has its own high-profile artists and presenters and culminates in a nationwide link-up with the Royal Albert Hall for the Â鶹Éç One relay of the traditional finale.
Katherine Jenkins returns to Â鶹Éç Proms in the Park, Hyde Park, while Russell Watson and Josh Grobin appear there for the first time alongside the Â鶹Éç Concert Orchestra and conductor Keith Lockhart. Lang Lang becomes the first Proms artist ever to appear in front of both the Proms in the Park and the Royal Albert Hall audiences on the same night. Â鶹Éç Proms in the Park, Hyde Park, is broadcast live on Â鶹Éç Radio 2 and more artists will be announced in due course.
Highlights of the Last Night celebrations around the country will be included as part of the live coverage on Â鶹Éç One, Â鶹Éç Two and Â鶹Éç Radio 3, while digital TV viewers can choose to watch the Royal Albert Hall concert or any of the events from around the UK.
