Star of film, TV and radio, stand-up comedian and game show presenter, Bob Monkhouse

Barry Cryer celebrates the fascinating life of his friend Bob Monkhouse, a consummate professional, whose public persona never once revealed his private heartaches.

Star of film, TV and radio, stand-up comedian, game show presenter, joke writer for Bob Hope – the list goes on and in this programme Barry profiles Bob's remarkable career and contrasts it with his personal problems off stage and screen.

Bob was one of the best stand-up comedians of his generation, but to many he was king of the game show. Along with Bruce Forsyth, he made the genre his own. He had a gift for putting people at their ease while remaining completely in control.

The programme examines Bob the actor, noting his appearances in everything from the very first Carry On film, through sitcom, to an episode of Jonathan Creek. Barry also recalls how in 1979 Bob's classic comedy film collection landed him in court and how he made the news again, a few years later, when his joke books were stolen!

Behind the famous smile, Bob's private life was sometimes turbulent and this programme traces his off-screen tribulations, and examines, with some of those who worked with him at the time, his bravery in front of the cameras.

All Around Bob Monkhouse includes classic clips and interviews with Bob himself from the Â鶹Éç's extensive archive collection. Contributors including Denis Norden, Bradley Walsh, Anita Harris, Ted Robbins, Sheila Steafel, Jimmy Cricket and Tom Edwards (Bob's friend and voiceover man on Wipeout) are united by one word throughout – "genius".

West End legend and musical maestro Bill Kenwright serves up another feast of pop and rock 'n' roll from his Golden Years.

This week Bill picks a favourite B-side from Johnny Burnette, a 20-Second No. 1 from Cliff Richard and bestows a We Did It Better (Bill's campaign to get British rock 'n' rollers recognised for songs he thinks they sang better than their American peers) on the great Frankie Vaughan.

There are also tunes from Jimmie Rodgers, Jerry Keller and Carole King, plus more tales from the Alleycat. Bill also reveals why he couldn't bear to listen to Bobby Vee's Please Don't Ask About Barbara and why Tommy Roe's Sheila saved his band from embarrassment.

Robert Winston's Musical Analysis Ep 1/4

In the first of this four-part series, Professor Robert Winston investigates how the career of pianist Sergei Rachmaninoff's was saved by hypnotherapy.

Robert combines his expertise and experience in science and medicine with his passion for music, to explore the relationship between the music and the medical conditions of composers who suffered mental and physical illness.

Rachmaninoff's Second Piano Concerto is one of classical music's most enduring pieces, but it was almost never composed at all.

The composer suffered an extreme creative block following the catastrophic première of his first symphony. After three years of silence, a hypnotherapist, Dr Dahl, cured him and rescued his career.

Professor Winston also investigates evidence that a medical condition was responsible for Rachmaninoff's famously large hand-span, with pianist Peter Donohoe demonstrating the difficulty this presents for would-be performers of his music.

Martin Jarvis brings his celebrated readings of Richmal Crompton's Just William back to Â鶹Éç Radio 4 with William taking the roles of latter-day knight, boy scout and aid to elderly relative in three tales.

In Tuesday's opening story, William, inspired by his history teacher's accounts of medieval derring-do, sets out with his faithful squire Ginger to help the oppressed. They come upon a beautiful damsel who is unquestionably oppressed, and therefore clearly in need of helpful succouring! But as so often with William, things aren't quite what they seem.

In Wednesday's story, The Revenge, boy scout William commits to a daily good deed, until he meets a ghastly child.

In Thursday's tale, The Ghost, William's elderly cousin Mildred confides in him that her dearest wish is to encounter a ghost. He decides to help her fulfil her ambition, regardless of the consequences.

Everyone Quite Likes Justin is a new sitcom by Justin Moorhouse and Jim Poyser, in which Justin tries to start dating again. But everything seems to have changed since he last tried, as the new collaboration between Â鶹Éç Radio and Television offering a platform to fresh comedy talent, continues.

Instead of dating, he manages to get embroiled with toy trains, Phantom Of The Opera and a greyhound that will never win a race.

In one version of his life, Justin is a well-known local Manchester radio DJ who is successful, funny and stopped in the street by adoring fans. He's the man who has everything. In another version he's a DJ in a slightly shabby local radio station who gets hassled by the occasional oddball on the street. And he's the man who hopes for everything. The truth lies somewhere in between.

Naturally, his private life is chaotic. His wife has left him, taking custody of his eight-year-old son Justin junior, and is in the process of taking him to the cleaners. So he's back on the market, as is his house, leaving him living in his father-in-law's spare room in Bury. The only person who understands him is his Gran, living in luxury in an old folk's home in Warrington.

Despite all this Justin remains positive. Every day is a new opportunity: "When life throws you lemons, make lemonade".

The cast includes Justin Moorhouse as Justin, Paul Copley as Ray, Anne Reid as Gran, Katherine Kelly as Lisa, Lloyd Langford as Bryn and Sally Lindsay as Tanya.
