Random by Debbie Tucker Green

4 Extra Debut. A family are devastated by sudden, unforeseen disaster. Nadine Marshall stars as the sister, brother, mother and father.

**** 4 Extra celebrates the 70th anniversary of London's Royal Court Theatre with a selection of its ground-breaking dramas

Debbie Tucker Green's stage play was first produced at London’s Royal Court Theatre in 2008.

Nadine Marshall reprises her extraordinary performance, playing four characters: sister, brother, mother and father. A black family which, in an otherwise ordinary day, is devastated by sudden, unforeseen disaster…

Debbie’s radio version was recorded on location in South London

It starts just like any day with "Birds bitchin' their birdsong outside" and with the sister (the play's central voice) outstaring the alarm clock "till it blinked first - loser".

But at work she gets a voicemail message from her mother: "Come home. Now."

There are two police cars outside.

Sister and her father have to take a journey to identify her brother's body. Killed in a random attack, just being in the wrong place at the wrong time.
