Somebody I Used to Know by Wendy Mitchell (Omnibus)

A dementia diagnosis at just 58 saw Wendy Mitchell face up to a disease threatening to steal all hope. Read by Tessa Gallagher.

Wendy Mitchell was diagnosed with early-onset Alzheimer鈥檚鈥 at the age of 58 鈥. 鈥

But after a 20-year NHS career based in York, this single mother of two adult daughters was not going to 鈥媕ust 鈥媑ive in.

Th鈥媔s is her account, written with Anna Wharton, of how she determined to try and outsmart the challenges served up by the dementia on a daily basis.

鈥婨very tiny victory was hard won.鈥

Every day is faced with courage and resourcefulness.鈥

鈥婩鈥媜ur years on from th鈥媏鈥 diagnosis, she still lives independently, spends more time than ever travelling th鈥媟oughout the UK to give talks鈥,鈥嬧 鈥媋nd 鈥媍ontinues to 鈥媎o whatever she can to change a society that views dementia as a death sentence.

Her driving force is a compulsion to live in the moment, never knowing which version of herself 鈥- somebody she used to know - 鈥 might greet 鈥媓er 鈥媤hen she wakes 鈥媏ach鈥 morning.鈥 鈥
