Edinburgh鈥檚 Religious Treasures

Claire McCollum discovers some of Edinburgh鈥檚 fascinating religious places with a tour of some of its oldest churches to see why and how they inspire our faith to this day.

Claire McCollum finds out what makes Edinburgh鈥檚 religious buildings and history so special with a tour of some of the city鈥檚 churches to see why and how they inspire our faith to this day. She visits St Cuthbert鈥檚 Church, believed to be the oldest Christian site in the city before taking a walk up to the world-famous castle and Edinburgh鈥檚 oldest surviving building, St Margaret鈥檚 Chapel. There she hears from members of a guild who maintain the chapel with fresh flowers and have a very unique membership criterion.

On the edge of the city, Claire uncovers the story of the capital鈥檚 own 鈥榮ecret garden鈥 in the grounds of an ancient church and how it creates a sense of peace and spirituality.

And back in Edinburgh鈥檚 Old Town, Claire discovers some of the chapels and churches linked to one of the most influential people in Scotland鈥檚 Christian history, John Knox, who changed the face of Christianity in the country with the Scottish Reformation.
