Stories of how the Cold War impacted the lives of ordinary people. Sgeulachdan mu mar a thug an Cogadh Fuar buaidh air beatha dhaoine 脿bhaisteach.

Air Taobh Sear na Roinn E貌rpa, tha d霉thchannan an l霉ib C貌rdadh Warsaw a鈥 t貌iseachadh a鈥 dol an aghaidh na riaghaltasan aca a bha a鈥 faighinn taic bhon Aonadh Shobhietach, fhad 鈥檚 a bha St脿itean Aonaichte Ameireagaidh agus an t-Aonadh Sobhietach a鈥 cumail orra a鈥 cruinneachadh agus a鈥 leasachadh armachd ni霉clasach 霉r nas cumhachdaiche.

Ach 鈥檚 ann ann an 1983 a tha an saoghal a鈥 tighinn nas fhaisge air cogadh ni霉clasach an uair a tha siostam mearachdach Shobhietach a鈥 toirt seachad rabhadh gu bheil ionnsaigh arm-tilgidh a鈥 tighinn bho na St脿itean Aonaichte. Tha eagal ni霉clasach aig 脿irde a-rithist ann an 1986 le daoine bho air feadh an t-saoghail a鈥 tighinn a dh鈥 ionnsaigh nan duilgheadasan r猫idio-be貌 air adhbharachadh le sgrios Chernobyl, tubaist a bha a鈥 comharrachadh tuiteam an Aonaidh Shobhietaich.

Mar dhaoine 貌ga air gach taobh de Bhalla Berlin, tha Carola NicCaluim agus Andreas Wolff a鈥 faicinn am balla a rinn sgaradh eadar an Ear agus an Iar, a bha a鈥 sealltainn mar a bha c霉isean ag atharrachadh tarsainn na Roinn E貌rpa, a bheireadh deireadh air c貌mhstrithean a鈥 Chogaidh Fhuair ann an 1991. Ach, ged a th脿inig an Cogadh Fuar gu cr矛och, dh鈥 fh脿g e milleadh maireannach ann am beatha dhaoine agus uallach am biodh s矛th ann san 脿m ri teachd.

In eastern Europe, Warsaw Pact countries are beginning to rise up against their Soviet Union-backed governments, while the USA and Soviet Union continue to stockpile and develop ever more powerful new nuclear weapons.

In 1983, the world comes close to nuclear war when a faulty Soviet system sends an alert of an incoming USA missile attack. Nuclear fears are again heightened in 1986 as people across the world are faced with the radioactive implications of the Chernobyl disaster, an accident that would be the first sign of the forthcoming collapse of the Soviet Union.

As young people on either side of the Berlin Wall, Carola MacCallum and Andreas Wolff see first-hand the dismantling of the barrier that had separated East and West, emblematic of the wind of change blowing across Europe that would lead to the cessation of Cold War hostilities in 1991. However, while the Cold War might have ended, it left lasting damage in people鈥檚 lives and showed the fragility of future peace.
