In a special episode to mark Â鶹Éç Scam Safe week, there’s a case of mistaken identity when Christina Trevanion asks for a cup of tea! Meanwhile, the teams shop for antiques in Derbyshire.
As part of Â鶹Éç Scam Safe week, Bargain Hunt has some top tips for viewers on how to avoid buying fake antiques and collectibles. Christina Trevanion talks to auctioneer James Lewis about the copies and counterfeits he sees in the saleroom, from dodgy Royal Crown Derby porcelain with dangerously high lead content, to fake Whitefriars glass and Blue John gemstones. Christina also meets autograph expert Garry King, who shows her how to tell the difference between genuine and forged celebrity handwriting before you hand over your hard-earned cash!
There’s nothing fake about today’s teams’ ambition to win big at auction. In red are sisters-in-law Krishna and Pooja, who claim that haggling is in their blood. They’re up against friends Nick and Christine, who will know what to buy when they see it. With Izzie Balmer by their side, the reds are on the hunt for teapots, but Izzie isn’t convinced they’re worth pouring money into. Across at the antiques centre, the blues and Nick Hall spot a vintage typewriter, but the high price tag doesn’t spell a profit for the team. Back in James’s auction in Derby, Izzie reveals a bone china bonus buy for her reds, and Nick hopes his item will light up the saleroom.
