Friends of Oscar by Rod Dungate

4 Extra Debut. As Oscar Wilde faces prosecution, the witch hunt for others in the Victorian gay community begins. Starring Jamie Newall.

On 18th February 1895, the Marquess of Queensberry left a visiting card at Oscar Wilde's London club, across which he had written his notorious message:

"For Oscar Wilde, posing as Somdomite"

The last word having been misspelt by the Marquess in his fury at Wilde for pursuing a relationship with his son, Lord Alfred Douglas.

Wilde prosecuted Queensberry for criminal libel and when Queensberry brought evidence relating to Wilde's personal life, the witch hunt, for others in the Victorian gay community, began too...
