Water Orton

Episode 9 of 35

Chris Hull and Sue Kent help Johnny and Jo transform their uneven, overgrown garden, neglected for 60, maybe 70 years, into a stunning blend of rustic French charm and English Victorian elegance.

Chris Hull and Sue Kent are in Water Orton to help Johnny and Jo transform their uneven, overgrown garden, neglected for 60, maybe 70 years, into a stunning blend of rustic French charm and English Victorian elegance.

The couple want to keep an old ivy as a central feature, alongside fragrant lavender, honeysuckle and jasmine to attract wildlife. Sustainability is key, with reclaimed brick for raised beds and walkways, and recycled wooden reels repurposed for tables. A gin-and-tonic pergola, cosy seating area and hidden garden nooks will add charm and character throughout the space.

Married for 31 years, Johnny and Jo first met when he was a chef and she his manager. Their journey took them to France, raising two boys before returning to the UK. Now retired, they have poured their hearts into restoring a former sweet shop and general store into a home full of character – and they’re ready to do the same for the garden.

Can the team bring this historic plot back to life with a modern twist on a £6,000 budget?
