2. A Devil's Pact
It鈥檚 the late 1930s and the commitment of the Cambridge Five spies to communist ideology is tested when Stalin signs a pact with Hitler. Do they rethink?
Stalin鈥檚 Apostles is a radical, new look at how the treachery of the spies in the Cambridge Five 鈥 Donald Maclean, Kim Philby, Guy Burgess, John Cairncross and Anthony Blunt - contributed to the building of Stalin鈥檚 鈥楻ed Empire鈥. It explores how these five men allowed their obsession with Communist ideology to overshadow any sense of morality and decency as they fed Stalin with secrets over a period of 17 years. Using recently declassified files, the book focuses particularly on the fate of the people of eastern and central Europe who were caught behind the Iron Curtain.
It鈥檚 the late 1930s and tensions in Europe are rising. The Cambridge Five鈥檚 commitment to communism is severely tested when Stalin signs a shocking pact with Hitler.
