Guy Singh-Watson: A Life Through Food
The pioneering founder of Riverford Organic meets Leyla Kazim to share his food story.
Forty years ago, Guy Singh-Watson set about starting to grow his own organic vegetables on his family farm in Devon. Since then, his business, Riverford, has become one of the country's best-known organic food companies, delivering veg boxes to homes around the UK.聽
Leyla Kazim meets Guy at the farm near Buckfastleigh to find out where it all began, before visiting the pack-house where tens of thousands of veg boxes are prepared each week. At the family home, Leyla also meets Geetie Singh-Watson, who opened Britain's first certified organic pub in Totnes in 1998.
Organic farmers have recently been getting more attention from Government, which has committed to increase the amount of land farmed organically in England to 10% by 2036. But while supporters of organic argue it can benefit nature and the environment, Guy also discusses the challenges facing the sector - which is still seen as a premium and sometimes out of reach choice for many shoppers.聽
