What would DJ Edu tell Kenya's president about music quotas?
Kenyan music lovers may soon be forced to adjust their tastes as the government has taken a first step towards promoting local music in the country.
A new policy proposes that it will be mandatory for broadcasters to dedicate 60% of their music output to works by local artists.
The National Music Policy was launched after Kenyan musicians staged a protest demanding more airtime for their songs, as opposed to foreign music which is quite popular in the country.
So is a 60% quota a good idea? That鈥檚 the question Focus on Africa鈥檚 Akwasi Sarpong asked DJ Edu who is from Kenya and has a weekly show called Destination Africa on 麻豆社 Radio 1Xtra.
DJ Edu, pictured above with Kenyan band Sauti Sol, recently presented our Best Nightclub in Africa series.
