Basketball for peace in South Sudan
Our Africa Editor James Copnall speaks to South Sudanese basketball veteran, William Deng about the relevance and significance of positive coverage such as sport and team culture amidst political tensions in South Sudan.
Despite light often being shone on power struggles between the Nuer and Dinka ethnic groups, Deng explains that on the court, a teammate is a teammate regardless of background.
Utilising basketball for change in society through teamwork and sportsmanship, in Deng’s own words, ‘In sports, we are one’.
