2016 Caine prize short list: Bongani Kona
Throughout last week, we have been reading you excerpts from the five stories shortlisted for this year's Caine Prize for African Writing.
Today's offering is by Bongani Kona from Zimbabwe. His story is entitled "At your requiem."
It is about two cousins, Christopher and Abraham.
Abraham's mother Julia brings up both boys, who become rivals for her love and affection.
During a difficult childhood- Abraham descends into addiction and dies.
In this extract Christopher remembers their relationship while attending his cousin's funeral.
