A British couple had a lucky escape after they were left stranded in shark infested waters.

Jeff and Julie Byrne from Cumbria were scuba diving on holiday in Mauritius when they re-surfaced to discover their boat had disappeared.

They then spent 7 hours in shark infested waters before being rescued.

Jeff told 5 live鈥檚 Nicky Campbell he felt 鈥渁 really sharp bump鈥� against his left fin.

鈥淚 didn鈥檛 put my head in the water, I didn鈥檛 want to see them. I thought if they鈥檙e going to come they鈥檙e going to come, there鈥檚 nothing you can do.鈥�

Jeff also said he has had 鈥渘o explanation whatsoever鈥� as to why the boat abandoned them.
