Across Africa millions of donkeys are being targeted and slaughtered for their skins with as many as 1.8 million traded each year.

Last year Mali, Burkina Faso, Niger and Senegal banned the exports of donkeys and their skins after booming demand from China pushed prices up.

A new report just released by the Donkey Sanctuary, a UK charity, says the trade is threatening communities in Africa who rely on donkeys. It wants other countries to ban exports too.
