South African education authorities are to give children as young as 12 access to condoms at school. The new policy means the children can get contraceptives without the consent of parents, guardians and school authorities. The aim is to reduce HIV infection in young people, who statistically account for almost a quarter of all new HIV infections in the country, as the Deputy Minister of Basic Education Enver Surty explains.
