Violence against women in South Africa: What to do?
Hundreds of women in South Africa attended a vigil for the funeral of Uyinene Mrwetyana, a 19-year-old student who was raped and murdered. The case has also sparked a debate on the soaring frequency of crimes against women in the country. According to a 2018 report, a woman is murdered every 4 hours in South Africa. Nnonlanha Sibanda Moyo is a Gender Specialist at the Centre for the Study of Violence and Reconciliation. She thinks the Government is not doing enough to support women victims of abuse.
