Composer: Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart

Conductor: Thomas Sondergard
Recording date: 04 February 2015
Date of broadcast: 04 February 2015

A rich and varied work, with a much-admired last movement, Mozart鈥檚 Symphony No. 41 announces itself in strident style. This work is god-like, full of power, light, and jollity.

It came to be known as 鈥楯upiter鈥 on account of the fact that its opening chords suggested thunderbolts to some, which might have been thrown by that Roman deity.

In the positive key of C major, Mozart gives us life-affirming music and his last symphony.
