Quragnaye: An insight into 19th century Ethiopian justice system
Two young lovers reunite after years of forced separation and decide to run away together but are caught by the husband. Neighbours stall the ensuing fight and an elder binds together the two men鈥檚 clothes, symbolically chaining them together, and tells them they must travel to the capital to stand trial in the queen鈥檚 court.
The story illustrates the old all-encompassing oral tradition, which included legal, political and socio-cultural systems in 19th century Ethiopia.
