Gambia opens case against Myanmar
Attacks by the military against the minority Rohingya Muslim group in Myanmar have forced hundreds of thousands to flee over the border to Bangladesh. The UN has called military attacks on the groups a 'textbook example of ethnic cleansing'. But the authorities have never been legally held to account until Gambia opened a case against Myanmar at the International Court of Justice alleging that acts committed during the so-called 'clearance operations' by Myanmar's military were 'intended to destroy the Rohingya as a group'. We hear from Abubakar Tambadou, Gambia's Attorney General and Minister for Justice, who filed the case at the Hague in The Netherlands.
