Ugandan hospital marks one year of no maternal deaths
In Uganda, one general hospital outside Kampala recorded zero maternal deaths for 2019.
Mothers dying during childbirth is a huge issue in Uganda, with statistics indicating that 16 women die every day as they attempt to become mothers.
Reason include not being attended to for hours while in labour, insufficient volumes of blood for transfusions, and a lack of 'mama kits' - essentials for the delivery to be conducted.
So how did Kawolo General Hospital achieve this milestone of no maternal fatalities? The 麻豆社鈥檚 Patience Atuhaire went there to find out.
