Ghana launches home of African free trade area
Ghana's President Akufo-Addo has launched the Africa Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) secretariat in Accra. Ghana was selected to host the Secretariat by member states of the African Union last year. The occasion marks a major step towards a single African market. The Trade pact should have come into effect in July, but the Covid-19 pandemic has delayed the process. Yaw Afful is the Executive Director of the AfCFTA policy network – the lead international NGO focused on the implementation of the AFCFTA. He's been sharing his thoughts about whether the pandemic might scupper the ambitious project with Focus on Africa's Audrey Brown.
