The Nigerian teacher raising money for colleagues during Covid-19
Private school teachers in Nigeria, as in many other countries, have been left facing a serious financial shortfall by the closure of their institutions. Covid-19 lockdown measures have forced the suspension of classes, and many teachers are not being paid at all, leaving some on the brink of destitution. Oluwaseun Akindele, a teacher in Abuja, has raised thousands of dollars to donate to around 400 struggling educators in the capital. He tells Focus on Africa what inspired him to act with packages of food and small amounts of cash. A Facebook video of Oluwaseun's heartfelt response went viral, inspiring people across Nigeria to donate.
