South Africa: HIV “breakthrough” at Wits Institute
Focus on Africa’s Bola Mosuro speaks to Sinead Delany Moretlwe, Director of Research at Wits Reproductive Health and HIV Institute in South Africa. The institute has announced promising results from clinical trials of a pre-exposure prophylaxis injection or PrEP called cabotegravir. Trials indicate that the new solution is more effective than daily PrEP pills already available – and only needs to be taken once every eight weeks.
