Ethnikids: Inspiring children through relatable books
When they could not find reading material that their young children could relate to, five South African mothers came together to actively seek out books that feature characters of colour and that were in various indigenous languages. That was five years ago, and now the project, which was borne out of frustration, has developed into a fully-fledged online store called Ethnikids.
Two of the co-founders, Tina Akuoko and Khumo Tapfumaneyi, spoke to Taurai Maduna about debunking certain myths and finding books with incredible stories to tell.
