'It was a joy working together'
The Awale Jant Band is a combination of two musical groups that have merged to produce an album entitled "Yewoulen", which means "Wake Up" in the Wolof language. Senegalese singer Biram Seck leads the Jant Band and he got together with the group Awale which is the creation of French guitarist Thibaut Remy.
Together they formed a collective of musicians from Africa and Europe. Thibaut wrote a lot of the music which went with the words and stories written by Biram and the result is a mixture of influences from Afrobeat to soul, and jazz, with a real flavour of Senegal. Focus on Africa's Esau Williams has been speaking to the band members. He started by asking Biram Seck how the collaboration came about.
