South Africa's first elected black politician
Dr. Abdullah Abdurahman became the first black South African to be elected to a political position when he won his first political seat in 1904. He served on the City of Cape Town Council for 36 years as a representative of the city's poorest people. Martin Plaut has written a new book about Dr. Abdurahman's life, and told Focus on Africa's Veronique Edwards about it.
