Recycling street material to highlight African gay lives
An exhibition which highlights the challenges of being gay in Uganda and the African continent is currently underway in London. The Ebika Bya ba Kuchu mu Buganda (or Kuchu Clans of Buganda) II by Ugandan artist Leilah Babirye brings brings together large-scale ceramic works, wooden sculptures, masks and vibrant paintings on paper. This work is inspired by Leilah's own experience which saw her leaving her country in 2015 after she was outed as gay. She's been speaking to Audrey Brown on the line from New York.
