The Street Sweep
All week we will be reading from this year's shortlisted stories for the Caine Prize for African Writing. Today's reading is from Ethiopian author Meron Hadero. Her short story, 'The Street Sweep', explores the relationship between foreign NGO worker Jeff Johnson and street sweep Getu Amare. We catch up with them at Jeff's leaving party at the opulent Sheraton hotel in Addis Ababa. Getu is hoping Jeff will be able to help him secure a better job. Here is Focus on Africa's Paul Bakibinga reading an extract from 'The Street Sweep'.
