The latest book by the Somali author Nadifa Mohamed has made it on the longlist for the 2021 Booker Prize. The literary prize is awarded each year for the best novel written in English and published in the United Kingdom or Ireland.听

Entitled The Fortune Men, Nadifa's third novel is based on the real-life story of Mahmood Mattan, a Somali seaman who came to the UK and was wrongfully executed for murder in Wales in 1952.

Nadifa Mohamed spoke to Focus on Africa's Wahiba Ahmed about her novel and the background to the case, but began by reading an extract from the book.
