Somali artists and the UNDP combine to promote poetry for peace
The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in Somalia has joined forces with a team of outstanding Somali creatives to work on a new initiative called 'the Home of Somali Poetry'. The idea is to bring together poets, writers, photographers and other artists to help generate pride in Somali poetry but to also use the art form to advocate for peace and human rights.
Jocelyn Mason is the UNDP Resident Representative in Mogadishu and he says almost everyone in Somalia is passionate about poetry and it is a good way to engage people in conversation.
