Nigerian tech company MainOne becomes part of a global platform
When Nigerian engineer and entrepreneur Funke Opeke founded an internet connectivity business in 2010 to provide a digital infrastructure for start-ups in Nigeria and across West Africa, she could not have imagined that 11 years later it would be bought by a one of the leading global companies in this field. But US company Equinix, which specialises in internet connection data centres, has just acquired her company, MainOne, for $320m.
Funke Opeke tells Focus on Africa it was her big goal to help bridge the digital divide in West Africa, and Equinix's acquisition will take that vision to the next level.
