Kyiv resident: ‘Our house was totally destroyed overnight’
As war broke out yesterday in Ukraine, Kyiv resident Olena Symonenko left her home with her family to try to get to the border, but it was too late. She spent the night hiding in a friend’s house in an area of Kyiv called the Right Bank.
At 4.30am this morning, she sent the Â鶹Éç Radio 4 Woman’s Hour team a photo of her apartment block. It had been destroyed overnight.
Hiding in her friend’s house, near a bomb shelter, along with her six-year-old son, she told Woman’s Hour on Â鶹Éç Radio 4 about what happened and her fears for her and her family’s future.
You can listen to Olena’s full interview by heading to Â鶹Éç Sounds and listening to the Â鶹Éç Radio 4 Woman’s Hour podcast from 25 February.
