Nigerian megastar Yemi Alade on being 'Yemi Alade'
Nigerian Afropop singer-songwriter Yemi Alade has been on the music scene for many years but really gained international prominence in 2014 with her huge hit, Johnny, from her debut album King of Queens. Since then, she has enjoyed great success with four more studio releases, and her collaboration with the Beninese music icon Angelique Kidjo, on the Mother Nature album, won the 2022 Grammy Award for Best Global Music Album.
Yemi has also been at the forefront of campaigns on the continent to highlight the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic, as well as supporting efforts to eliminate malaria. She spoke to Focus on Africa's Hassan Arouni about her many influences, being a "fun-loving musical enthusiast" and finding solutions to problems.
