When Lady Unchained was 21, she was sentenced to two-and-a-half years in prison for grievous bodily harm following a fight in a club while trying to protect her sister. She spent 11 months behind bars and five months tagged.

Picking up the pen as part of her survival in prison, she began to write and perform poetry. Since her release, and now a poet, performer and award-winning broadcaster, she’s become an advocate for changing people’s perceptions of women with convictions.

Her debut poetry book, Behind Bars: On punishment, prison & release, is a culmination of her work during and after prison. She joined Emma Barnett on Â鶹Éç Radio 4's Woman's Hour to discuss life after prison, how she uses poetry to express herself and how she found her voice again broadcasting on National Prison Radio.
