After much talk over recent months about Southend bidding to become the UK City of Culture in 2029, 麻豆社 Essex learns that Southend-on-Sea City Council is unlikely to submit a bid due to 鈥渢he growing financial challenge鈥� it faces.

In a statement, the council said the pressure of resources needed for social care means it can鈥檛 recommend making a bid.

The MP for Southend West, Anna Firth, tells 麻豆社 Essex she is surprised and very disappointed by the news.

Mrs Firth also gives 麻豆社 Essex her views on proposed changes to 麻豆社 local radio.
