After much talk over recent months about Southend bidding to become the UK City of Culture in 2029, 鶹 Essex learns that Southend-on-Sea City Council is unlikely to submit a bid due to “the growing financial challenge” it faces. In a statement, the council said the pressure of resources needed for social care means it can’t recommend making a bid. The MP for Southend West, Anna Firth, tells 鶹 Essex she is surprised and very disappointed by the news. Mrs Firth also gives 鶹 Essex her views on proposed changes to 鶹 local radio.
