Indigenous communities claim benefits from rooibos
Last month South Africa鈥檚 rooibos tea industry paid over $700,000 to groups representing indigenous Khoi and San communities as part of a benefit-sharing agreement that recognises the traditional knowledge of the two communities. From now on, an annual levy of 1.5% of the farm price of the herbal tea will be paid into a trust by the Khoi and San people.
