Herefordshire village hall's energy bills rise by '1000%'
Credenhill Community Hall says it could be forced to shut its doors unless an issue with its energy bills can't be resolved.
It's used for birthdays, christenings, entertainment and education, but Credenhill Community Hall says it could be forced to shut its doors unless an issue with its energy bills can't be resolved.
A few months ago, back solar panels were installed at the hall at a cost of 20 thousand pounds, to help keep the bills down.
But since then, the hall's bills have risen from 拢125 a month to more than 拢1,600 a quarter. At one point they had a bill for 拢5,000 a quarter.
The Secretary Paul Oliver tells our reporter Felicity Kvesic how the provider SSE says it's because it had been charging the hall for the energy it created, rather than what it used - it still hasn't returned the money.
A spokesperson for SSE Energy Solutions said: "We are working with Credenhill to look at ways they can reduce their bills, including whether they are eligible for some form of VAT relief. The consumption meter is only measuring the electricity that is used by the Community Hall when the solar panels are not generating power."
